Courage: Feeling the fear but doing the right thing anyway, no matter the cost or difficulty
Showing bravery in the face of fear and obstacles + the willingness to go first and lead others with initiative = courage
If we are courageous, we take action in brave, daring, dauntless, and fearless ways.
Courage requires:
- Initiative – Courageous people make the first attempts, pursue pioneering efforts, and step up to the plate.
- Trust – Courage requires letting go of the need to control situations or outcomes.
- Voice – A courageous person will use a calm, informed, and clear voice to identify difficult issues, providing tough but necessary feedback and sometimes sharing unpopular opinions.
“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
