Expressing appreciation for your possessions and opportunities + acknowledging other people’s significance in your life = gratefulness

Gratefulness requires:

Perspective – Gratefulness is far more than just being thankful.  It is a mindset that is not dependent on an event or receiving a gift.

Conscious effort – Gratefulness is a choice, and we need to make a conscious effort to choose it every day.  The more we choose to be grateful, the more natural it will become.

Mindfulness – Mindfulness is living with heightened awareness and focus.  It can help us become and remain aware of all the things we have to be grateful for.

Gratitude can increase happiness and reduce negative emotions and depression.
