People who are not joyful appear unhappy and dissatisfied. They are likely discontented and may be in a state of sadness and gloom.

Enemies of Joyfulness:

  • Perfectionism: When we strive for perfection, we are not satisfied unless we achieve flawless results. However, perfection is not an attainable goal and will lead to disappointment.
  • Resentment: Many people are robbed of joy because they have resentment for things that happened months and even years ago.
  • Bad Habits: Our bad habits can make us feel unworthy or guilty and can harm our sense of joy.

“Joy is the holy fire that keeps our purpose warm and our intelligence aglow.”  – Helen Keller
