Courage: Feeling the fear but doing the right thing anyway, no matter the cost or difficulty.
Showing bravery in the face of fear and obstacles + the willingness to go first and lead others with initiative = courage
If we are courageous, we take action in brave, daring, dauntless, and fearless ways. Courage is necessary for action; it is the starting point for success.
Courage requires:
- INITIATIVE – Courageous people make the first attempts, pursue pioneering efforts, and step up to the plate.
- TRUST – Courage requires letting go of the need to control situations or outcomes, having faith in other people, and being open to direction and change.
- VOICE – A courageous person will use a calm, informed, and clear voice to identify difficult situations, providing tough but necessary feedback and sometimes sharing unpopular opinions.
“Courage is the first of the human virtues because it makes all others possible.” – Aristotle
