People who are unteachable are characterized by resistance to new information and correction. They are opinionated, reject feedback, and assume they are always right.
Unteachable people diminish their capabilities and understanding, narrowing their opportunities because they reject others’ wisdom. To be successful in life, we must face our own inadequacies and use mistakes and weaknesses as catalysts to increase our knowledge and experience.
Enemies of Teachability:
- PRIDE – Prideful people think they know best and do not seek input from others.
- SELFISHNESS – Self-centeredness can make us resistant to necessary change because we want to do things our own way.
- BUSYNESS – Believing that we are too busy to consider other ideas and solutions prevents us from gaining the wisdom and knowledge that lead to better decision-making.
