Some of the greatest leaders in history were humbled by the scope of their responsibility. Great leaders, such as Billy Graham, Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington, accept their role with great humility, knowing that they affect the well-being of many people. Their desire to serve people and to make a difference in society is more of a calling than a position.
When leaders become prideful, the power can become intoxicating, starting a downward spiral. This is true for any leader, from CEOs to parents. When we lead by absolute control and make decisions for our convenience, people resent our authority, and our leadership looks more like that of a dictator than a servant leader.
True humility seeks truth, justice, peace, and goodwill toward all people. Humble people don’t have to be the center of attention, and they celebrate other people’s victories. Choose to be humble; the Bible says that the meek will inherit the earth. –Paul Weaver
