Impatient people are irritable, restless, and angry when our plans do not go according to schedule.  Impatient people take action that is not appropriate, considerate, or productive.

ENEMIES OF PATIENCE:

  1. Poor Planning– Lack of preparation and inadequate planning leave no margin for setbacks or difficulty.  When recalculations and adjustments are required, impatience takes over and we force hasty decisions to meet deadlines or keep to schedules.
  2. Pride– A desire to be right and to be in control undermines patience.  When our goal is delayed, our natural tendency is to find someone or something to blame or to insist that the original plan be followed regardless of the outcome.  Pride and the inability to reevaluate the situation can ruin a project.
  3. Low Standards– When there is no commitment to excellence, anything becomes acceptable.  Patience is not part of the equation, and consequently, we feel little desire to work and wait for what is best.  Low standards work against the things that are worthwhile and lessen the importance of process and patience.
