People lacking initiative may be unresponsive, passive, and slow to act, and may appear indifferent and lazy.
ENEMIES OF INITIATIVE:
- FEAR: Being afraid to do something without detailed instructions, thinking, “What if I mess up?” Taking the first step can help you defeat the fear.
- PROCRASTINATION: If we allow the prime time for action to pass, the job becomes more difficult or even impossible because we waited.
- DAUNTING GOALS: Thinking there is too much to do, so we settle for just not doing it. Dividing goals into smaller projects and individual steps makes taking initiative possible. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” [Matthew 7:7 (NIV)]
