Kindness: Demonstrating gentleness and warmth toward others
Genuine care & compassion + a gentle approach to interacting with others = kindness
KINDNESS REQUIRES:
- WILLING INITIATIVE: Kindness is not simply “doing no harm” or adopting a “live and let live” philosophy. Kindness looks ahead, sees what is needed, and willingly takes the first step toward helping other people.
- SENSITIVITY: Often, our desire to be right pushes us toward being more aggressive and insensitive in our conversations. To be right but rude is always wrong.
- HELPFULNESS: Kindness requires setting aside personal thoughts, feelings, and agendas to meet another person’s needs.
“Kindness is the language the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”- Mark Twain
