Ownership: Assuming responsibility for outcomes and results

A person who actively takes ownership accepts their responsibilities as well as the authority and liability of being part of a team. They take initiative, make appropriate decisions, invest in outcomes and results, and personally accept the roles and functions to complete a task or project.

Personal Responsibility + Self-Accountability= OWNERSHIP

Ownership Requires:

    • INITIATIVE: Be more concerned about outcomes than job descriptions or official responsibilities. Step up without being asked and invest in the results. Have an attitude of “if it’s going to be, it’s up to me.”

    • AUTONOMY: A leader acts independently without coercion.

    • PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY: Self-awareness and respect are more important to those who demonstrate ownership than what other people think. They hold themselves to a high standard for achieving results.
