The quality of a person’s leadership can be determined by how he or she makes decisions. Strong leaders make decisions based on the good of the organization, even if the decisions are unpopular. When a decision causes change in the organization, it will rarely, if ever, be accepted by all. Changes can cause confusion, and people may need to make sacrifices to meet the conditions of the changes. A strong leader will be sensitive to the feelings of others, listen to understand their fears and frustrations, and then walk with them as they go through the difficult areas of change.

Weak leaders may cave in to demands of people simply because they hate confrontation. This leads to stagnation and a lack of initiative. Weak leaders may also take a dictatorial approach, barking orders and asking people to make sacrifices that they would not make themselves.

In short, great leaders make well-thought-out decisions and then serve their people, giving them all the tools and help they need to accomplish their assignments. Weak leaders lead by position only and never capture the hearts of those they lead. Choose to be a strong leader; make decisions for the good of your organization.
