People without humility appear proud, conceited, and self-absorbed. Their ego makes them hard to approach, and they are both pretentious and boastful.
Enemies of Humility:
- DEFENSIVENESS. Being defensive prevents us from gaining perspective that will make us better. Input is essential in personal development, especially in the arena of humility.
- ENTITLEMENT. Entitled people believe the world owes them something. Believing we deserve something that we have not earned limits our humility.
- LACK OF EXPERIENCE. Lack of experience can lead to inflated and inaccurate self-perceptions. Exposure to a variety of people, cultures, and beliefs is necessary to help us understand our place in the world.
