Dependability: Reliable and worthy of trust

People who are not dependable will disappoint others because they are unreliable, unstable, and indifferent.  Those who lack dependability cannot be trusted to complete assignments on time or with consistent quality because they are uncertain and easily distracted.

Enemies of Dependability:

  • Lack of margin – When we overschedule ourselves and our resources, it is difficult to have dependability because we will neither have the time nor the energy to follow through.
  • Difficulty – When things get difficult, it is easy to make excuses and drop the ball.
  • Bad judgment – Dependability is derailed when we ignore our responsibilities in order to fulfill momentary desires.

God does not begin by asking us about our ability, but only about our availability, and if we then prove our dependability, he will increase our capability.”  – Neal A. Maxwell
