Unfair people act with disrespect and thoughtlessness to whomever they choose, whenever they choose, while treating others with favor. An unfair person acts with partiality and bias.

Everyone has known the sting of being treated unfairly, so we tend to guard ourselves from people we believe may subject us to that pain again.

Enemies of Fairness:

  • STATUS QUO: Fairness is not easily chosen or given and can lead us to excuse our personal choices to be unfair.
  • LACK OF INFORMATION: It is very easy to react casually or emotionally in situations where we lack information. Both reactions can lead to unfair resolution of the issue and inadequate treatment of people.
  • SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT: We live in an entitlement society where many believe that fairness means that everyone should have all things equal. The fact of the matter is that life is not always fair. However, we are all given gifts and talents, and more than that, we are all given opportunities and choices. What we do with those is a direct result of how we view fairness.
