Self-Awareness: accurately knowing your own character, feelings, motives, and desires.
Accurately understanding your strengths, character, and emotions + Seeking and applying feedback from others = SELF-AWARENESS
Self-Awareness Requires:
- Letting go of my ego– Everyone has a preferred way to view themselves. Our views of ourselves rarely match what the world sees. Self-awareness means dismissing our egos so that our real personalities thrive.
- Discipline– We cannot reach our full potential without self-awareness. Old patterns of misinformed thinking may not be overcome easily. Retraining our minds to think realistically and honesty requires discipline.
- Present Focus– We need to confront and deal with past issues, but life is lived in the present moment. Being consumed by the past or obsessed with the future may prevent us from understanding who we are in the present.
“Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.” – Proverbs 26:12 (King Solomon)
